Our original plan for Memorial Day weekend was to travel to the Ft. Collins, Colorado area and attend a family reunion of sorts with my uncle's boys (the uncle who passed away last November). All three of his boys and their families were going up to their dad's land to start cleaning it up and thought it would be fun to have a family get-together. Since my mom was still in Utah helping us watch our boys, I thought it would be fun for all of us to go for the weekend. The weather didn't really cooperate though so we made the decision not to go. There was snow in the forecast and I just couldn't envision us having much fun in the snow with our little guys especially since there isn't really a house up there, just a couple of camper trailers. We were sad to miss it though!
Instead, we decided to take Mom up north and visit Dave's grandma's grave-site. We hadn't been there in several years so we thought it was a good time to go. We had some beautiful peonies in bloom on our bush so we cut a few of the flowers off and took a little bouquet to place on her grave.
The week after Memorial Day brought Dave's last week of teaching. He finished up on Thursday, May 28th and my mom took off the next day to head back home. She was here for six weeks watching the boys and we are SO incredibly thankful she was willing and able to do that for our little family! It meant that Miles could finish out his year at both of his preschools instead of having to go to daycare and changing everything for him so close to the end of the year. The boys loved having her around and miss her now that she's gone!
Now the boys are enjoying having Dad around more and Dave is getting a taste of what being a stay-at-home dad is like. On day #3 of his summer with the boys he said to me as I walked out the door for work, "Don't leave me here alone with these boys!" He was joking, but I thought it was so funny. It's definitely hard work being at home with the boys all day!
To kick our summer off we decided to head up to the mountains to our favorite park. The boys had a great time throwing rocks in the river and wading in the river as well. We also did some rolling down the hills and just enjoyed being together.
