It never fails!

I can almost count on being sick with a cold after I've spent any amount of time around family for a holiday. It happens to me almost every year for at least one of the holidays (Thanksgiving or Christmas). Why should this year be any different? Well, it wasn't. I finally went back to work today after taking two days off because of a stupid head cold. I think I am the world's worst sick person! With medicine I can at least now function somewhat. I do get tired easily though still and am heading off for a nap!

I have the GREATEST husband in the world who helps take care of me when I'm sick and brings me lovely surprises!

Ta Da!

There were a lot of unusable branches at the top of our Christmas tree so we decided to chop it off...hopefully it doesn't hurt our tree in the long run! It looks pretty funny with a flat top!

Dave helps me put the lights on the tree (which can be a traumatic experience...perfection is hard to accomplish) and then it is up to me to finish decorating the tree. I can occasionally rope him in to putting on a few of the colorful bulbs.

Christmas Vacation

The day after Thanksgiving us and a few of the Kents went hunting for Christmas trees in Idaho. This is an annual tradition for the Kents, but a tradition we have only taken part in once before. The first time we got involved Dave was sent alone to pick our tree while I was in Kansas dog sitting for my aunt and uncle while they were in New Zealand. Our tree that year was a Charlie Brown tree for sure and couldn't even hold up most of my ornaments. So...our goal for this year was to find a sturdier tree. I think we were successful, but our search took a LONG time. We climbed all over that mountain and the entire time all I could think of was the movie Christmas Vacation. I just knew that when we found the right tree a beam of light from heaven would shine down and let us know that was the one! There were definitely moments of frustration because I have an idea of what the perfect tree should look like and of course perfect trees aren't growing on the side of a mountain. After searching for about an hour we did find a tree I would consider perfect, but it was taller than the rules would allow for us to cut down and wouldn't have fit in our house at all. We settled for the next best tree. It isn't perfect, but it works. It has character and looks pretty darn good all decorated! Looking back on the experience I think it was fun and will provide lots of memories for years to come, but in the moment I have to admit that I was pretty frustrated. I wish I wasn't so picky sometimes (as I'm sure Dave wishes too)!

Happy Thanksgiving

We had a very enjoyable Thanksgiving with the Kents. I, unfortunately, had to work for about an hour Thanksgiving morning. When I got off we left for Logan, UT to spend the day with Dave's mom and a few of his siblings and their family. Everyone had "responsibilities." This year we were in charge of the green bean casserole, corn, pumpkin pie, whipped topping and carbonated beverages. I absolutely LOVE green bean casserole, but Dave hates it so I always volunteer to bring it when I know there will be others around to help me eat it. I can't eat an entire casserole all by myself, although I'm sure I could get close! We were worried there might not be enough pumpkin pie so we decided to bring an extra one. There ended up being tons of desserts so our pie wasn't really needed. We brought it home with us and have enjoyed it over the last few days! The boys watched some football while the girls got dinner ready. The boys also managed to play some basketball as well. After dinner was over we sat around and visited and watched movies.

I left Dave in charge of taking pictures and this is what he came up with...

We definitely have many things to be thankful for! We have a wonderful family and many great friends in our lives. Dave wanted me to mention also that he is thankful for people that do his dishes (thanks Ann for scrubbing our casserole dish!!!). We love you all and appreciate all you do for us. Thank you!

I've been tagged

My dear friend, Erin, decided to "tag" me so now I have to write six things about myself and "tag" six other people to do the same about themselves. I don't think I'm a very interesting person, but maybe some of you will enjoy this and learn something new about me?? So, here it goes...

1. I have a really bad memory and a crazy brain. My grandparents like to tease me that I'm only 28 years old and way too young to have such a bad memory, but I do. I really think Dave is going to have to take care of me later in life because I might just forget who the heck I am at age 40! Maybe I have beginning stages of Alzheimer's? An example of how weird my brain is sometimes...yesterday I was at work chatting with a patient who had just had twins. They were a product of in vitro. Since Dave and I went through in vitro last fall I had a few things to chat with her about. We were talking about all sorts of stuff including some of the comments people make to you when you struggle with infertility. She mentioned that she loves when people tell her that when she stops thinking about things or when she gives up she will get pregnant. Her husband has a physical condition that will not allow him to ever have children. She later was talking about her 3-year-old son and I opened my stupid retarded mouth and asked her if she conceived him naturally or if he was a product of in vitro! How stupid and forgetful can you be? We had just talked about how it would be a miracle and all over the news if she were to get pregnant on their own. I didn't even realize how stupid my question was until almost an hour later and then I spent the rest of the day beating myself up for being absolutely retarded!

2. I love schedules and routines. I think sometimes that maybe my behavior is a product of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), but who knows? I like to do things a certain way, including my daily routine. My dogs know exactly when things are going to happen in the morning and evening because we do it the exact same way every day. I do my grocery shopping the exact same way as well by starting in the back of the store and working my way to the front. I can't go grocery shopping without a list either. I'm weird, I know. My favorite baby story about me told by my mother is that when I was little we were all eating dinner at the dinner table when I started to fuss (before I was talking). Her and my dad could not figure out what was wrong with me and why I wasn't happy. They finally noticed that I was reaching for or pointing at the bottle of ketchup. My mom thought that maybe, just maybe I was upset because the lid was off of the ketchup bottle (she was reaching for sure!). She decided to put the lid back on and almost instantaneously I stopped fussing. All I wanted was for the lid to be put back on the bottle.

3. I absolutely adore my husband. I may not be the best person at showing it most of the time, but I think he is fabulous. I was one of those people who thought you could not possibly know if someone was right for you unless you had dated them for forever and ever. I broke all of my own rules and got engaged really quickly and got married 4 months after we were engaged. We had only known of each other for about 6 months total. I knew the second I saw him that he was who I was supposed to marry and here we are 7 1/2 years latter...very happy and still in love!

4. This is a weird trait about me...I do not like to be touched very much. I definitely have to have my own space. My mom said that even as a baby I did not want to snuggle or be held for very long. I hardly ever initiate a hug. I will occasionally initiate a hug with my husband, but my friends are always the ones to initiate hugs with me.

5. The clock determines when I am hungry. Because of my set schedule and routines, I have also become accustomed to eating at specific times of the day. It can be 11:59 a.m. and I won't be hungry, but as soon as the clock turns to 12:00 p.m. then I'm ready for lunch. If I don't eat at those times then I get really hungry and very mean. I am the meanest person when I am hungry and I am very ashamed of it and wish I wasn't that way. Food really controls my life because I'm always thinking about what will we be doing during the time when I get hungry and how will I get food.

6. My final trait is that I love to talk and write/chat/email. As you can tell from this blog, I can go on and on about nothing.

There you have it, very long! After reading this back to myself I'm wondering if maybe I don't need some counseling. It is weird to see personal traits about yourself in writing, huh? Well, sorry this went on for so long, but I hope you all enjoyed it and learned something new.

I now tag Apryl P., Jennifer J., Beth E., Heather C., Jill C., and Tonya K.

Fun Weekend

When it rains it pours! We had a blast this weekend and felt very popular and loved. We can go for months and months without any visitors, but this weekend must have been the weekend that everyone wanted to see us...and our new floors. We got a call late in the week from Dave's brother, Jake, that he and his family wanted to come spend Friday night with us. Jake, Megan and Gwen drove down from Bountiful, UT for the night. We had fun catching up and spending time together! They even humored me and went couch shopping on Saturday with us! It was nice to see them again. Gwen turns 1 this month! It is amazing how quickly time flies!

One of my close friends, Erin, that I have known for years was also in town visiting from St. George, UT. We had fun catching up on each other's lives and spending some time with her and her family. Her baby, Brynlee, wasn't sure what to think of Buddy or Dave. I'm not sure she liked either one as you can tell from the pictures.

Not sure of the doggie!

Best friends forever!

The girls

We also got a call from Dave's sister, Ann, Saturday morning saying that her and her family were thinking about coming down for the evening. They decided not to join in our festivities although it would have been fun!

We definitely had an enjoyable weekend and appreciated having friends and family around!
